A blur

You know that feeling where it all just feels like a blur,

Two lost souls, two different worlds,

Answers in their eyes, yet they are so far,

You would do anything just to see their gaze, to feel there eyes on you,

And slowly, but surely, the wind whispers,

Please move on, there’s nothing left for you here.

Indescribable

Once in a while…ok that’s a lie,

Constantly…that’s more like it

You’re in my thoughts,

I just want to hold you under the dark night sky,

To laugh, to live, to just be in that moment,

In almost-lovers eyes, we’ll stare at what we could have been.

I can’t describe the way I feel when I’m around you,

I feel impulsive, I feel like I want to be let go,

I know what you want –

A beautiful woman wrapped around your arms,

With soft kisses as sweet as candy,

Like memories that never fade,

Like a music box that continuously plays.

I hardly see you now and I know this is the way things should be,

It’s what’s best for us, but maybe in a different lifetime,

When we become what they call ‘grown ups’,

We’ll decide to rebel against the world,

Against the pain, the worry and the uncertainty that comes along with youth,

With growing up and maturing,

With falling in and out of love,

With knowing what you want and don’t want,

Through figuring out the person you’ve become.

I can’t help the way I’m drawn to you, it’s all that non-verbal shit,

The way you look at me, the way you and I know what we’re both thinking,

I’d honestly rather forget,

But your words say one thing, and your eyes say another,

All I really need to do is look into them, that’s where I find my answers,

There’s really no need to ask, yet I always think,

I think and think and think.

It’s because there’s something between us,

Some call it chemistry, it’s some sort of stupid spark,

I don’t get it, I honestly don’t get you,

But one day I will, and one day we’ll get carried away,

In an indescribable moment, that just feels right,

When things that didn’t make sense before finally do,

And you realise, all you needed to do was wait,

To be patient, to be kind, to be rest assured that thing will work itself out.

Our Moment

Sometimes I still think of you, the one with the green eyes,

The person who believed in me, when I doubted myself,

You have many dreams, and I believe you’ll go far,

I hope one day you’ll think of me, and smile,

We carry on with our day to day lives,

We are in our twenties and we still have a lot to learn,

To be young and reckless, to be bold and courageous,

If life is said to be full of moments, then I know our moment came,

It also passed, along with the whispers of the wind,

Though you’ll always have a special place

Right here, in this beating heart of mine.

Churros & good music on the radio

IMG_4256

Walking into San Churros, the vibe was quite relaxed and pleasant. We shared the new Classic Fondue for Two, which comprised of melted milk chocolate fondue served with mini churros, chocolate nut brownie, banana, strawberries, white nougat, salted caramel macarons, pretzels and marshmallows ($24.95). The night before I was flicking through channels on TV, and I came across this tourist guy in Switzerland, dipping a giant strawberry in chocolate fondue and relishing at how delicious it tasted. “Mmm…mmm…” Ok, I get your point, Mister! Of course, it instantly made me jealous! So I just had to get it. Good B agreed to the shared fondue. For those of you who have never experienced fondue (mind you, you are missing out), it was originally a Swiss dish of melted cheese served in a caquelon (communal pot)  over a portable stove called a réchaud, and eaten by dipping long-stemmed forks with bread into the cheese. The term fondue derives from the French verb fondre, meaning “to melt.” Believe it or not, fondue was a classic peasant dish. In Western society, fondue has been generalised to other dishes in which small pieces of food, often fruit or sweets are dipped into a communal pot of hot liquid, usually a melted chocolate mixture. The life of a 20-something living in Sydney

You casually check your hair in the reflection of retail store windows, as you walk swiftly with a coffee in one hand, while contemplating whether you’ll get to work on time. Multi-tasking. It’s hard. If you’re part of Gen Y, then you’ll most likely want things done efficiently in a timely manner. Whether that be your order at McDonalds when you regret that you wish you had prepared your lunch the night before rather than planning to do it in the morning, which you never really did because your alarm clock was teasing you to press snooze, and you just couldn’t resist, or you just keep making excuses for things you’ve been putting off like that long awaited catch-up brunch with a friend that never really got planned. That sentence doesn’t even make proper sense. But you know what who cares. These days it feels as if no one cares. It’s as if we are just existing, rather than living. Nameless faces going with the flow of the rat race, especially now that it is leading up to Christmas. When was the last time you had a nice, chill, I-wanna-be-here-and-don’t-have-plans-straight-after chat with an old friend in a relaxed environment? These days we are all busy. We stuff our food with fast food during breaks at work. Or we chump on a high calorie, high sugar ‘snack’ like a triple chocolate fudge muffin, while simultaneously gulping down expresso that burns your tongue because you tell yourself, “I just don’t have time”. Am I angry at the world that things have just gotten so out of control? Am I angry at myself for wanting to chase my ‘blurred’ dreams because I’m a success-hungry 20-something? If you’ve ever felt this way, then don’t fear you’re not alone. We just need to do one thing, and that’s to relax. Problem solved. Ask yourself, what is important to you? if you were to die tomorrow, would you worry about the small things that fill your headspace on a daily basis? What would you do if the world was going to end tomorrow?

Yours truly,

from a 22-year-old who dreams of a quiet place of serenity with the sound of spring water peacefully trickling down, where she can clear her thoughts.

Inside

In a distance so close it made me feel strangely comfortable,

In a moment of nothing but bliss, I looked into your eyes,

I noticed how often they change colour in different lights,

I also noticed how bad I wanted you, but couldn’t have you.

That accidental brush against my shoulder, it stirs me inside,

All that hoping and wishing, it drives me crazy inside,

Sometimes it’s easier not to look your way, for it breaks my heart inside,

That’s how I feel, that’s exactly how I feel inside.

Starbucks + a weird story about skim milk

Starbucks

I normally walk past Starbucks conspicuously in slow motion, take 5 steps back, then finally decide to enter. It’s usually a green tea latte or a white chocolate mocha (yes, they are coffee to me). Usually I go with skim milk, when I remember that is, and definitely no whipped cream. I figured 5 seconds of heaven in return for 15 minutes on the treadmill at the gym? No thanks. I have too much junk in my trunk. Or maybe whipped cream just isn’t my thing. A sprinkle of cinnamon over my coffee always gives the finishing touch. And as for skim milk (or skimmed milk as they call it in the UK and Canada), I have a funny story that goes along with that. When I was 11ish (I really can’t remember, so I’m just going with that), my mum decided to replace the full cream milk we always had with skim milk (and only skim milk) because a friend of hers who was also a mum had done so. No semi-skim milk, no low-fat milk with added calcium and vitamin D, just skim milk. As I didn’t really have enough dough to pay for the groceries at the time, I guess I just went with it. So over time, I just got used to it. Then one day in high school, I had a full glass of full cream milk, and I remember telling myself, “It’s so…creamy”. I wasn’t used to it, what can I say?

Every time they ask for my name at Starbucks, I always have this same thought, “Quick, make up a name” before automatically surrendering and giving my real name. I’ve had a few friends in the past who always give a different name. They would always say it with confidence and as if it was nothing. Their actual names were supposedly “too difficult”, so for every visit they made to Starbucks I guess they sort of created a new identity for themselves. “Hi, I’m Superman today, but normally I’m Clark Kent. Hold my glasses while I casually rip open by buttoned-up collared shirt will you.” One of them who was Indian always gave the name Raj (you know like that guy who’s scared of girls on Big Bang Theory), the other one always gave the name TJ, despite his initials being TT. I guess that would be weird if he actually said, “Call me TT.” Not that anyone says that while they are in line at Starbucks, but hey, who knows. Anything is possible.

Yours truly,

from a 21-year old girl who likes Starbucks (except for when there’s a long wait or they don’t make it nice).

Morning chaos + a new scent

rogue 2

You wake up, you have coffee, and you look yourself in the mirror and say, “Oh my God, I have 5 minutes left!” So you frantically do your make-up, pack your bag and do your little ‘jeans dance’ to fit into your favourite baby blue skinny jeans. And my final step, is a spritz of my currently favourite perfume before I run out the door. That’s my typical morning for you.

On my way to uni, I took a little ‘detour’ and went to Priceline, near Central Station. I couldn’t help but notice the 40% off all perfumes sale sign (written in bold, might I add), which led me to purchase Rogue by Rihanna for a measly $23.99 (win!). Now, I’m not a crazy, obsessed Rihanna fan girl (note: I’m more of a Beyonce I’m-so-fierce fan girl. By the way, I can’t believe I’ll be in the moshpit singing along to her tunes this Friday for her Carter Show World Tour in Sydney). rogue 1However, Rihanna’s fourth fragrance for women, Rogue, is an absolute winner! According to Rihanna,  “People are always changing and evolving and with Rogue I wanted to switch it up to reflect who I am today.I made it for all women, for every mood, because we all want to project our true selves.” Now, this fragrance is announced to be flirtatious and sensual. I’m not sure if I’m either, however, I do like the sultry and adventurous edge it brings about, while at the same time radiating a sweet and feminine facade.

Rogue contains accords of lemon blossom, cyclamen, jasmine, rose, plum and suede over a base of musk, woods, patchouli, vanilla and amber. The fragrance is available as Eau de Parfum in three sizes: 30, 75 and 125 mL. I normally purchase 30 mL perfumes because they are easy to carry in a purse or bag. Secondly, I find that by the time I reach half way of a 50 ml or more bottle of perfume, I’m usually over it, and looking for another sweet scent to spray all over. In summary, Rogue by Rihanna is a light fresh fragrance that makes it seem like you had one whole hour to prep in the morning. A whiff of this gives the impression that you just came out of the shower smelling like lemon blossum and vanilla.

Your’s truly,

from a 21-year-old girl who has 21 bottles of various perfumes on her dresser and still can’t get enough! You only live once after all.
